Dear SiLA friends and members,

We are delighted to have had two fantastic SiLA events in October.

The SiLA/ELRIG Workshop at DrugDiscovery 2017 on October 4th in Liverpool, UK, was an overall success with a high attendance of 60 people and great talks given from 10 presenters across users, suppliers, standards and future technologies. We would like to thank all presenters for their time and valuable input on the topic: The Way to the Next Generation Lab of the Future – What, Why, How?

On October 19th, SiLA invited for another Hackathon at BSSE in Basel. Thanks again to UniteLab for preparing and hosting the event!

The team, based on three groups, was on the high-level target of developing real components and concretely explore implementations for various aspects.

1. SiLA Dispenser: A dispenser was made SiLA 2 compatible using discovery, designing features and code gRPC Server & Client. The driver was developed on a Raspberry Pi.

2. Virtual Balance: An example use case was given and features were defined accordingly. The team included the usage of a “non-immediate command” and showed a possible implementation in Java.

3. Virtual Barcode Reader: An example use case was given and features were defined accordingly. The team defined and implemented use cases that requires proper error handling over gRPC in Python.

We would like to thank all participants for their efforts and time to help to accelerate the development of SiLA 2.

This year’s basellife2017/ MipTec week was a busy week for the SiLA-Team, SiLA members and friends.

Starting off with the MipTec exhibition, although only being present with a small booth and showing live demos of the standards, SiLA and AnIML caught the interest of many visitors. On Thursday, September 14th, the 8th SiLA Conference took place at the Novartis campus. With some 50 attendees and a variety of speakers from all industries, the event was again very successful and we are happy to have received much positive feedbacks from participants. All presentations of the Conference will be available in our download section soon.

The week ended with the SiLA TechDay #5, a members only event, this time hosted at Idorsia Pharmaceuticals in Allschwil. There we had SiLA members from all membership categories present to brainstorm and to help accelerate the development of SiLA 2.

We would like to thank all participants of the events for their efforts and look forward to meeting many of you again at the SiLA/ELRIG-Workshop at ELRIG/DD2017 on October 4th in Liverpool, UK.

The Way to the Next Generation Lab of the Future –
What, Why, How?

October 4th, 09:00am – 13:15pm, Liverpool Conference Center

From laborious data transfer and incorrect user settings, to poor utilization and uptime, the lab today can be a frustrating place to work!

The future promises to be bright, but what will the lab look like? Can our labs benefit from the revolution of the Internet of Things and concepts from Industry 4.0?

Join us for 4 highly-interactive linked sessions over a morning, each led by industry leaders, taking us on the journey to the lab of the future.

Each session will propose a vision of what is cutting edge in each area and attendees will debate that vision and how best to prepare for it in a fun and interactive way.

We look forward to see you there!

Hello SiLA Members and Friends,

There are still some open slots for presenters! This year’s topic is Collaboration: A Way to Drive Innovation

We are welcoming speakers from all industries including those from academia and non-profit organizations who can contribute to this constructive conference around:

  • How do you use collaboration to develop new products and innovative solutions?
  • How do you use collaboration to finance projects?
  • What tools do you use to ease collaboration among team members?
  • What are some of the challenges present when collaborating and how are these overcome?

Additional conference topics regarding SiLA implementations or proof-of-concepts are also welcomed—just let us know what you have in mind!  Perhaps even your customers would be interested in giving a testimonial presentation on your behalf!

The event will be hosted by Novartis on September 14th 2017, the day following the annual Basel Life Science Week Conference and Exhibition (https://www.basellife.org).

Are you interested? Please let us know no later than 3rd of July if you wish to present as well as your preliminary topic!

More details on this year’s SiLA Conference including registration information will be available soon.

We look forward to hear from you!
